ABOUT THE HALL

IMG_8232.jpg

Situated at the centre of the picturesque village of Holton le Moor and nestled on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Moot Hall oozes character and charm.

A visit will transport you back in time!

The Moot Hall is suitable for birthday or anniversary parties, wedding receptions, meetings and residential experiences for Youth groups. The neighbouring March Yard is also available for hire, should you need an outdoor location for camping, games or barbeques.

With full central heating, run on environmentally friendly wood chips, together with the option of an open fire the Hall has plenty of character.  The recently refurbished kitchen now provides options for mass catering if required.

Layout of the hall

The main hall is 12m by 8m with a large gallery overlooking. There is a smaller room, which acts as ante-room to the main hall.

The kitchen is equipped with a gas cooker with large oven, a microwave, fridge freezer and electric water heaters. There are 2 large sinks and ample work surfaces.

We have male, female and disabled WCs, with baby changing facilities.

The heating system has recently been overhauled and the hall is now toasty warm, thanks to underfloor heating and radiators, which are powered from a wood pellet boiler. An open fire is also available.

History of the hall

The Hall was built in 1910 and was commissioned by Revd Thomas George Dixon, the village squire. The hall is timber framed, stands on brick footings and is styled on the late medieval period or the Tudor period.

A slightly later addition, in 1914-1915, was the pargetting on the exterior of the hall. This makes the hall unique in Lincolnshire.  Designs include Britannia, Dixon, the first caretaker Jonathan Mill, local shepherd Robert Appleton, Nelson, Wellington, George V, St George, St Hugh and Lincoln Cathedral.

In 1973 the running of the hall was taken on by a management committee, although the hall remains the property of the Gibbons family. This was followed by an extensive amount of refurbishment which still continues today.
